Canada Proposes New Regulations to Reduce the Risk of Strangulation from Corded Window Coverings

The proposed Corded Window Coverings Regulations, issued under the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA), was published in Part 1 of Canada Gazette dated June 17, 2017. This proposed regulation is currently out for review, with the deadline for comments and feedback being August 31, 2017.

was implemented nearly 9 years ago. The China National Standardization Technical Committees for Apparel has revised GB/T 22700-2008. The updated version GB/T 22700-2016 was implemented on July 1, 2017.
India’s BIS Extension for Batteries Registered to IS 16046:2012 Is Coming to An End

In December 2016, BIS extended the registration deadline for IS 16046:2012 to August 31, 2017. Manufacturers choosing to use IS 16046:2012 have until August 31, 2017 to comply with IS 16046:2015.
EU Bans Three Fragrance Allergens Used in Cosmetic Products

The European Commission has published Regulation (EU) 2017/1410, banning the use of three fragrance allergens, HICC (CAS NO. 51414-25-6/ 31906-04-4), atranol (CAS NO. 526-37-4) and chloroatranol (CAS NO. 57074-21-2).
Turkey Adds Substances to Control List in Market Surveillance for Footwear Products

The Turkish Ministry of Economy has recently announced new customs controls for footwear products that are subject to market surveillance. Official Gazette 29236 added new restrictions for phthalates, Chromium VI and Dioctyltin (DOT) to the control list. The new controls became effective on July 10, 2017.
Green Dry Cleaning Solvents

Dry cleaning is any cleaning process for clothing and textiles that use a chemical solvent rather than water. It is used to clean fabrics that degrade in water, and delicate fabrics that cannot withstand the rough and tumble of a washing machine and clothes dryer. Perchloroethylene (perc) has been the leading dry cleaning solvent used in the dry cleaning industry and is still being used by the majority of dry cleaners in many countries. However, the health risks of perc as a dry cleaning solvent has spurred interest in alternative solvents to replace its use.
