US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to Expand Phthalates Restriction under CPSIA

The CPSC has recently voted to issue a final rule to restrict a total of eight phthalates in children’s toys and child care articles. This final rule will become effective 180 days after publication in the Federal Register.
Reminder – South Korea – Revision of Safety Standards for Infant and Children’s Textile Products

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) in South Korea has published two Notices of Revision, No. 2017-16 and 2017-17, in January 2017 regarding their safety standards for infant’s textile products subject to Safety Confirmation Act and children’s textile products subject to Supplier’s Declaration of Conformity Act respectively. The new amendments will be effective from February 1, 2018.
EN 60335-2-9 LISTED IN THE OJ OF LVD (HARMONISED STANDARDS UNDER 2014/35/EU)

The European Union formulated commission decision (EU) 2017/1357 on July 19, 2017. The standard EN 60335-2-9:2003 shall be listed in the OJ of the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) 2014/35/EU with a restriction.
EU Further Amends Proposal for BPA in Food Contact Materials and Articles

The EU proposes to further amend its draft legislation on BPA in ‘food contact plastics’ and ‘food contact varnishes or coatings’. If approved, the new provisions could become effective in late 2018.
US State of Washington Expands CHCC Reporting List

Washington State has recently adopted an amendment to its Children’s Safe Products Act. The new rules will become effective on October 30, 2017.
